Empire medical student volunteers commended by Sonoma County Indian Health Project
Congratulations to Empire's student volunteers (Laura Gutierrez, Lisa Haun, Nicole Livingstone, Kaitlin Maksim, Cristina Poueu, Natalie Rogers, Delphone Russell, Ascelia Sanchez, and Maria Valmonte) who assisted at the recent Employee Health Fair at River Rock Casino. Volunteers were asked to perform blood pressure and blood glucose screenings at the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Sonoma County Indian Health Project's tables.
Neal Stone, who works in Indian Health's Healthy Traditions Department, provided certificates to each participant and stated, "Please let your students know how appreciative we are of their skills, and for giving their time to this worthy cause."
"The Healthy Traditions Department is dedicated to preventing diabetes in Indian country, and sharing our experience with other communities as well," explains Mr. Stone. "This is a huge undertaking, one that we cannot possibly accomplish without the assistance of caring people like the people at Empire College."
